Some journeys begin with an event, some journeys begin with a question, and some journeys begin with a silence. The series “Lighting Jiddu’s Candle to Reread the Scriptures” was born from all three: the dissatisfactions of life, the questions that never had answers, and the quiet moments when the mind suddenly looks back at itself.
Even though I have only just begun the path of studying and contemplating the Buddha’s teachings, I have stumbled through basic practices, foundational doctrines, and then deeper systems of thought. But only when I encountered Jiddu Krishnamurti did I realize something seemingly simple:
all teachings, all paths, all methods only have meaning when we truly see ourselves.
Jiddu does not belong to any religion, does not represent any school, and does not want his listeners to become his followers. He simply invites us to observe — observe the body, observe the mind, observe life — without any concept or framework. And that transcendence brings him very close to the spirit of the Dharma.
I choose Jiddu as a “candle” not to replace the scriptures, but to illuminate them with new eyes. When the light of direct observation meets the light of Buddhist wisdom, things that once seemed familiar suddenly become clearer, closer, and more alive.
This series of 18 writings is arranged as a continuous journey:
· Dependent Origination opens the door to seeing the interrelation of all phenomena.
· The Four Noble Truths help us recognize suffering and the possibility of ending suffering.
· The Four Foundations of Mindfulness bring us back to observing ourselves in each moment.
· ConsciousnessOnly illuminates how the mind creates the world.
· Madhyamaka frees us from all extremes of thought.
· The Avataṃsaka reveals the interbeing of the entire Dharmarealm.
Each topic has three writings — just enough to touch the essence, without falling into theory, repetition, or wandering. All are written like pages of a spiritual journal, where I record what I see, what I understand, what transforms — under Jiddu’s light and in the breath of the Dharma.
I have no ambition to explain the scriptures. I only want to share the journey of a student seeking a path, learning to look back at oneself, learning to live a simple and genuine spiritual life.
If these lines can open something for you — a question, a moment of stillness, or a small spark — that is already a great blessing.
Please step into this journey with me.
Not to find answers, but to see yourself more clearly in each step.
