Chapter 11-3. RESPECTING METHODS WITHOUT ATTACHING TO METHODS

Written in

bởi

Methods are tools, not fixed truths

I. Why practitioners easily cling to methods

• A method reduces suffering → “this must be the best”

• A method fits well → “others must be inferior”

• A beloved teacher teaches this method → “this must be the authentic one”

This is method‑ego.

II. A method is a tool

A method is a raft.

Not the shore.

A method is a map.

Not the territory.

III. What does respecting methods mean?

• Practicing sincerely

• Understanding deeply

• Not judging other methods

IV. What does non‑attachment to methods mean?

• Not treating your method as absolute

• Not dismissing other traditions

• Not mistaking method for truth

V. Conclusion

A method is a path.

Not the destination.

The destination is direct seeing.
